A moody unglazed storage jar, made from buff clay, and fired near the firebox in the front section of the anagama. The mottled green on this jar is entirely the result of ash inside the kiln. Perfect for storing tea bags, sweets, rocks from the beach, or anything else that needs a more interesting home.
Stands approx. 11 cm tall and 12 cm wide.
Fired for 62 hours in the large anagama at Oxford Kilns.
Each pot experiences the anagama differently. Some areas get more ash, some get heavier reduction, and some have more shadows from their neighbouring pots. Shells, silica-rich grasses like mare’s tail, and nearby glazes have all left their marks on these pieces. As such, there is more variation in their texture and colour than you’d get in a standard gas or electric kiln.
I recommend handwashing woodfired work just for longevity’s sake. These pieces are fully vitrified (watertight) as they’ve been fired to cone 11/12. I’ve carefully washed and sanded each piece.
