A quite charming little fellow of a vase, small and round with a shino glaze on the interior and part of the exterior. This one has been on my desk since he came out of the kiln.
Stands approx. 11 cm tall and 9 cm wide.
Fired for 62 hours in the large anagama at Oxford Kilns.
Each pot experiences the anagama differently. Some areas get more ash, some get heavier reduction, and some have more shadows from their neighbouring pots. Shells, silica-rich grasses like mare’s tail, and nearby glazes have all left their marks on these pieces. As such, there is more variation in their texture and colour than you’d get in a standard gas or electric kiln.
I recommend handwashing woodfired work just for longevity’s sake. These pieces are fully vitrified (watertight) as they’ve been fired to cone 11/12. I’ve carefully washed and sanded each piece.
