Trio of small bud vases, made of the same clay and fired in the same kiln with vastly different results. The tallest one fell over near the firebox and got a layer of ash on its side. The middle one got heavy body reduction and some lovely ash flecks, and the shortest guy got almost no body reduction but has a beautiful green ring of ash on the very top. These look great as a set or split up as individual gifts.
The middle vase stands approx. 12 cm tall and 6 cm wide.
Fired for 62 hours in the large anagama at Oxford Kilns.
Each pot experiences the anagama differently. Some areas get more ash, some get heavier reduction, and some have more shadows from their neighbouring pots. Shells, silica-rich grasses like mare’s tail, and nearby glazes have all left their marks on these pieces. As such, there is more variation in their texture and colour than you’d get in a standard gas or electric kiln.
I recommend handwashing woodfired work just for longevity’s sake. These pieces are fully vitrified (watertight) as they’ve been fired to cone 11/12.
