A wise cat to help you make good decisions and watch over any serious life matters where you might need some guidance. Made in the potters' tradition of kiln guardians, each of these little guys is hand-modeled by me. I try to make them look a little befuddled, a little judgemental, and a little whimsical. Partially glazed with shino and complete with a hole in the bottom so you can wear them on your finger. Marked with ash from the firing.
This listing is for 1 cat - please select the cat of your choice in the dropdown.
Each stands approx. 5 cm tall and 2 cm wide.
Fired for 62 hours in the large anagama at Oxford Kilns.
Each pot experiences the anagama differently. Some areas get more ash, some get heavier reduction, and some have more shadows from their neighbouring pots. Shells, silica-rich grasses like mare’s tail, and nearby glazes have all left their marks on these pieces. As such, there is more variation in their texture and colour than you’d get in a standard gas or electric kiln.
I recommend handwashing woodfired work just for longevity’s sake. These pieces are fully vitrified (watertight) as they’ve been fired to cone 11/12. I’ve carefully washed and sanded each piece.
